Material selection begins with service conditions
Super-duplex material family for severe chloride and corrosion service. Final grade selection should be based on the governing cast or wrought specification, environment, temperature, required properties, weld or repair restrictions and downstream heat treatment.
Cast and wrought designation
“2507” is commonly used as a super-duplex family shorthand. For cast components, ASTM A890 / A995 Grade 5A (CE3MN) is a common cast designation associated with the 2507 family; wrought S32750 / 2507 uses different product specifications. The governing cast grade, heat treatment and acceptance requirements should be stated on the drawing or purchase specification.
Manufacturing considerations
The alloy affects melting practice, shell interaction, heat treatment, machining behavior, distortion risk and surface-treatment compatibility. These factors are reviewed together before quotation.
Information to include in the RFQ
- Exact grade and governing ASTM, EN or customer specification
- Required heat-treatment condition
- Mechanical-property, corrosion or ferrite requirements
- NDT and material-test requirements
- Repair restrictions
- Certification and traceability documents
Avoid substitution by name alone
Cast and wrought designations, national standards and customer specifications are not always interchangeable. The purchase order and drawing should identify the controlling material standard rather than relying only on a familiar commercial name.
