VDV Y-strainer program

Our VDV Y-strainer range is designed to protect valves, pumps, meters and downstream process equipment from particles carried in the line. Our program sizes extend from DN15 to DN500 at PN16, with a temperature range of approximately -20 to +200 °C depending on body and sealing materials. Screen options cover roughly 10–60 mesh.

Body, seal and end-connection options

Carbon steel, stainless steel and selected nickel-based alloys are available for different corrosion duties. Gasket and sealing systems can include spiral-wound, NBR and PTFE options. Butt-weld, clamp, flanged and threaded ends are available on appropriate designs.

Screen selection is a flow calculation

The finest screen is not automatically the best screen. Mesh must capture the particle size that threatens downstream equipment while keeping adequate open area and acceptable differential pressure. Media viscosity, solids loading and cleaning interval affect the practical choice. If plugging is likely, a larger screen area or a coarser first-stage strainer may reduce maintenance.

Cleaning and blow-down

Maintenance strategy should be decided before installation. Specify whether the screen will be removed manually, whether a drain or blow-down connection is required, and how much space is available to withdraw the screen. The body orientation should allow collected debris to remain in the strainer pocket rather than immediately returning to the line.

What to send for quotation

Provide line size, pressure, temperature, media, expected particle size/loading, required retention, allowable pressure drop, end connection, body material and preferred cleaning method. If the strainer protects a specific pump, meter or control valve, the downstream equipment’s allowable particle size is particularly useful.
